Just letting you all know that i'm leaving the land downunder (Australia) and moving to Whistler!!!

I'm so so so excited!

I've never skied overseas before and can't wait to see what a snow mountain (not fields like we have here) look like!!

I'll be in Whistler from 1 November.

I already have accommodation for one week at a hotel and hope to find a job and permanent accommodation within that time. I've been told you just wing it.

Any tips would be great.

Did I mention that i'm PUMPED!!!

Hey folks!
It's the time of the year to buy last years skis.
I'm still looking to buy the Line Celebrity 2010 in 165. I have been looking throughout the summer to find them in stores near Montreal and I didn't find anything, so now I'm into the online shopping game.

As a new skier, I was wondering what were the best sites for online ski purchase in Canada? For my snowboarding gear, I have always bought my stuff from local dealers, but since I can't find what I'm looking for...

Any clues for Line skis online?

Many thanks!
It's kinda cold here in Quebec at the moment, winter's coming!!! :yahoo:

In this blog by Lorraine Huber (currently ranked #7 in the World Ranking (FWT), and #4 in the Qualifier rankings (FWQ).)
She describes the changes coming to the Freeride World Tour (FWT) with a balanced outlook on the positive and negative implications for women on the FWT.

Since it seems that a split of the event schedule to Women's and Men's is inevitable, how will this impact both genders?

IMHO the biggest down side is splitting media coverage with hurt the women's events.
This will also impact the(already minimal) sponsor dollars available to the events/skiers that get less media coverage.

Just announced last week! Phase 1 of 3 will be ready by this winter.
***
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – A longtime dream for many Sugarloafers became a reality on Tuesday, when officials at Sugarloaf announced a massive terrain expansion onto Burnt Mountain, the resort’s neighboring peak. Sugarloaf also unveiled a comprehensive, ten-year vision for development at the resort, called Sugarloaf 2020.

The terrain expansion to Burnt Mountain was the centerpiece of today’s announcement, and will create up to 270 acres of new terrain for the upcoming season, and 655 new acres when the entire project is complete. This will double Sugarloaf’s current skiable acreage and make it the largest ski area east of the Rocky Mountains.

The new terrain will all be gladed, “sidecountry” terrain, offering skiers and riders a one-of-a-kind backcountry style experience, with the security of patrolled, inbounds terrain. The expansion will be completed in three phases, the first of which will be the 270 acre “Brackett Basin” area, which will begin to open during the upcoming season. The second phase will encompass 135 acres, including the summit of Burnt Mountain, and will open a second above-treeline area to accompany Sugarloaf’s legendary snowfields. The third and final phase will be 250 acres, and will open the north face of Burnt Mountain. When the expansion is complete, skiers will enjoy a vast, 655 acre glade and an experience unlike anything else in the East.

Although the Burnt Mountain expansion was the biggest piece of today’s announcement, officials also unveiled a new, comprehensive ten-year vision for the resort, called Sugarloaf 2020. The vision outlines future plans for capital improvements at the resort, including new chairlifts, huge upgrades to the resort’s snowmaking system, base lodge and facility improvements, as well as plans for summertime offerings including the popular new zip lines, which were installed this summer.

The prices may or may not be good, example AC20 $499, as it is not the type of gear I'm looking at right now. There were also sale stickers on the women's Volkls.

As an aside, the owner also mentioned that Paul from Snowcovers was also going to be working for them from Tuesday.

Last spring, my husband and I ski toured from Chamonix to Zermatt (well, almost to Zermatt. The weather turned foul and we didn't make it over the last col.) What an amazing trip! I would recommend this one to anyone up for a little adventure. The Alps are amazing, the ski history is rich and the turns aren't bad either. The trip takes about five days, and you stay in huts. Some of the huts are better than others, and several have recently been renovated. Gone are the days (and nights!) at the Vignette Hut when one must hover over a 5,000 foot drop above a glacier when using the "loo". This was my second trip on the Haute Route, and I have to admit that I did not miss the old two-seater at Vignette.
Some nights, I found myself the only woman amongst a roomful of boisterous men, none of whom had showered in days. Besides all the olfactory surprises, I heartily suggest a trip to the Alps. It's a classic, and when you go there, you will see why.

Hi all,
So I just found out that I need reconstructive surgery on my elbow due to a fall snowboarding two years ago. It appears the two different doctors I went to after the injury and my PT missed the fact that I had torn a ligament. Finally went to steadman-hawkins after dealing with pain, stiffness, swelling ect. for too long. Now im scheduled to have the bones resurfaced due to severe calcification and the ligament repaired. Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with similar injuries and what the recovery time was like ect..
thanks!

Yesterday we were a freakin', fargin', shmucking NINETY-NINE DEGREES! I live in central NH and it was 99! Reminded me of growing up in lower Alabama. Miserable, miserable, miserable. All that terrible life-sucking heat made me dream of winter. Last year New England had scant snow. When do we start to hear predictions about this year, be they old wives tales, farmers' almanacs, or weather gurus? Time for some beautiful leaves to herald the wonderful whiteness.
